On the 10th and 11th of November, the Justice and Peace Commission is organising an international workshop on the theme of The changing world of work – a transversal justice issue. This workshop will seek to analyse the different ways in which the world of work is changing in Europe and explore the social and economic consequences of these rapid changes. The plenary meetings and small group workshops planned over these two days will help shed light on the risk to workers’ rights which are being magnified by the evolving nature of work, whilst also giving space to examples of work practices which are respectful of the dignity and rights of workers.
During the opening night of the conference, on Friday the 10th of November at 19:30 at the Jesuit Church Oratory in Valletta, Sr Alessandra Smerilli, under-secretary at the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, will deliver the keynote speech.
On Saturday 11th of November, from 9.30am onwards, proceedings will mostly be held at the Gran Salon of the Archaeological Museum in Valletta. Confirmed guest-speakers and panellists for the plenary sessions and thematic workshops include: Mr Josef Vella (CEO, UHM – Voice of the Workers), Dr Marthese Portelli (CEO, Malta Chamber), Perit David Xuereb (Chairperson, MCESD) and Mr Stefano Mallia (President of the European and Social Committee Employers’ Group).
As part of the programme, attendees, which will include around fifty delegates from other Justice and Peace Commissions in Europe, are being asked to choose one of the following thematic workshops:
Workshop A: Platform economy? Or modern slavery?
Workshop B: Losing their lives whilst making a living – Accidents and deaths on construction sites
Workshop C: A culture of permanent availability or a duty to remain connected?
Workshop D: Young people and work: a changing relationship
