L-abdikazzjoni kontinwa tal-gvern mir-responsabbiltajiet ta’ tfittxija u salvataġġ qed tikkontribwixxi għall-imwiet fil-Mediterran

Aktar minn 1,300 persuna mietu jew għebu fiċ-Ċentru tal-Mediterran fl-2022. Dawn in-nies – irġiel, nisa, tfal, ulied – jistgħu jiżdiedu man-numru ta’ mwiet deplorevoli ta’ aktar minn 25,000 persuna li mietu waqt li kienu qed jaqsmu l-Mediterran mill-2014 ‘l hawn[1].

In-nuqqas kontinwu tal-gvern Malti li jżomm ir-responsabbiltajiet tiegħu ta’ tfittxija u salvataġġ (SAR) jikkontribwixxi għal dan in-numru ta’ mwiet billi jpoġġi l-ħajjiet f’riskju… Kompli aqra »

Il-Knisja f’Malta

Meta tkellem f’Ta Pinu, il-Papa Franġisku stedinna nerġgħu niskopru l-essenzjali tal-fidi tagħna f’proċess ta’ tiġdid tal-ħajja tal-Knisja li qatt mhija biss “storja tal-imgħoddi biex infakkruha, imma futur kbir li rridu nibnu.” Bin-numri dejjem jonqsu u d-distanza bejn il-valuri tal-Evanġelju u l-kultura dominanti dejjem tikber, kif tista’ l-Knisja lokali tkompli taqsam l-Aħbar it-Tajba ma’ kulħadd u mhux biss ma’ ċirku żgħir u ristrett? Lesti nħallu warajna ż-żoni ta’ kumdità, biex naqbdu rotot ta’ evanġelizzazzjoni ġodda u riskjuzi? … Kompli aqra »

Il-kontribut ta’ Papa Benedittu għad-Duttrina Soċjali tal-Knisja

A lot is being written these days about the figure of Benedict XVI, a pope of great intelligence, formation and humility, who will certainly go down in history books as a great theologian. In this brief article, I wish to summarize, what, in my opinion, were Benedict’s greatest contributions to the Social Doctrine of the Church.

When going through the writings of the different Popes, we will often notice quotes from their predecessors and or even from their previous writings… Kompli aqra »

Rapport Annwali 2022

In a year which was sadly marked by the return of war on European soil and daily reports of deadly injustices and senseless violence, the need to denounce situations of violent injustice, whilst proposing creative pathways which lead to more just and reconciled communities, has never been so urgently felt.

In this context, as a Commission, we make ours the words of the Holy Father who, whilst in Malta, highlighted the need to shore up the foundations of life in society, namely honesty, justice, a sense of duty and transparency… Kompli aqra »

Ħadd ma jista’ jsalva waħdu

In his message for the 56th World Day of Peace, which will be celebrated on the 1st of January 2023, Pope Francis reminds that there is light even in the darkest hour. Using the Covid-19 pandemic as an example, the Pope says that the pandemic made us all aware of the need for everyone, including peoples and nations, to restore the word “together” to a central place in our lexicon.  Only the peace that comes from a fraternal and disinterested love can help us overcome personal, societal and global crises… Kompli aqra »

Wirt kulturali

Kull darba li ma nagħtux każ ta’ l-għeruq tagħna u ninsew minn fejn ġejjin, niftaqru. L-identità tagħna tkun mhedda u nirriskjaw li nisfaw vittmi ta’ forom ġodda ta’ kolonizzazzjoni ideoloġika. Fl-istess ħin, jekk nenfasizzaw iżżejjed l-għeruq, il-memorja u l-identità tagħna, nistgħu neħlu f’ideoloġiji nostaliġiċi li jeskludu lill-oħrajn u jħalluna imwaħħlin fil-passat.

Ma’ Fr Nicholas Doublet, lettur fl-istorja tal-Knisja fl-Università ta’ Malta u Dr Karsten Xuereb, riċerkatur fir-relazzjonijiet kulturali b’mod speċjali fil-Mediterran, nitkellmu dwar il-vokazzjoni ta’ Malta li nkunu “laboratorju ta’ żvilupp organiku” (Papa Franġisku)… Kompli aqra »

Il-qawwa tal-ospitalità

On the 5th of March, 2002, 250 asylum seekers drifted into Xlendi Bay, Gozo. Their arrival marked what would later be considered as the first major disembarkation of asylum seekers on Maltese shores. Since then, the issue of migration has practically never disappeared from our socio-political agenda. Among friends and colleagues, the pros and cons of welcoming people in a multicultural society are discussed. Come election time, the success or otherwise of our “integration” programmes is debated… Kompli aqra »

Sejjaħli b’Ismi

Wara xhur ta’ ħidma li fihom saru sensiela ta’ sessjonijiet ta’ djalogu bejn il-migranti u l-komunità, il-Ħadd 11 ta’ Diċembru tnediet il-wirja Sejjaħli b’Ismi. Dan il-proġett interkulturali huwa frott kollaborazzjoni bejn it-tim ta’ Sejjaħli b’Ismi, il-Kummissjoni Ġustizzja u Paċi u l-JRS (Malta) u qed ifakkar ukoll l-20 sena anniversarju mill-ewwel żbark kbir ta’ persuni li jfittxu l-ażil fuq xtutna.

Waqt it-tnedija tal-wirja li saret fis-Sagristija tal-Kon-Katidral ta’ San Ġwann fil-Belt Valletta, il-President tal-Kummissjoni Ġustizzja u Paċi Daniel Darmanin semma d-diskors li l-Papa għamel reċentement wara ż-żjara tiegħu fil-Bahrain… Kompli aqra »
